HugglePets History

HugglePets was founded by Mike Dixon in Wolverhampton in 2010, initially as an eBay store selling pet supplies online. Mike, a dog owner with a personal passion for animals, had identified pet supplies as a strong-performing niche through his own research and launched the business from home. The name HugglePets came from his young son asking for "a hug and a cuddle". As online sales grew, Mike and his father Ian Dixon opened a brick-and-mortar store in Wolverhampton in 2014. The business is operated by PGO (Trade) UK Limited, incorporated in December 2013, and is based at Cooper Street, Wolverhampton.

HugglePets has grown into one of the Midlands' most well-regarded independent pet retailers, covering pet supplies, pet food, accessories, live animals and reptiles from a dedicated store and fulfilment centre in Wolverhampton. The company holds 86 aquatic tanks in-store stocking coldwater and tropical fish, and also offers livestock including small animals, reptiles and budgies. All live animal sales go through a careful vetting process to ensure animals are going to suitable homes. In 2018, HugglePets participated in eBay's Retail Revival programme - the first such programme launched in Europe - which helped the business significantly grow its online presence and reach. In the twelve months following participation, HugglePets achieved over £1.7 million in eBay turnover.

HugglePets has also developed its own branded range of pet care products, designed and sourced directly from manufacturers with no middleman, keeping prices accessible. For several years now, the business has developed its own branded range of pet care products manufactured to its own specification and delivered directly to Wolverhampton, cutting out the middleman entirely.
