Crampton & Moore History

Crampton & Moore was founded in 1966 by Roy Crampton and John Moore, who began by repairing faulty televisions from a converted Methodist church in Wincobank, Sheffield. At a time when colour television was transforming home entertainment across the country, the pair spotted a gap in the market for affordable, honest electrical retailing in South Yorkshire. They opened their first shop shortly afterwards, with further stores in Rotherham, Ecclesfield and Firth Park following as demand grew.

Now one of the largest independent electrical retailers in the North of England, Crampton & Moore has remained 100% family-owned throughout its history. John Moore's son, Robert Moore, now leads the business, which has expanded to include stores in Harrogate and a flagship 45,000 sq ft Superstore at Waverley, Catcliffe, Rotherham, which opened in November 2023. The Rotherham Superstore features a 200-space free car park and extensive live product displays covering everything from the latest OLED televisions to large kitchen appliances. The company is a member of RETRA (the Radio, Electrical and Television Retailers' Association) and was among the first independent retailers in Yorkshire to champion global brands such as Samsung, Panasonic and LG.
