Expert Hughes Review

The experts at Offeroftheday give Hughes an overall rating of 4.2/5

Products

Hughes has been trading since 1921, making it one of the longest-established electrical retailers in the UK and currently the fourth largest. The range covers kitchen appliances, small appliances, televisions and home entertainment, with premium brands such as AEG, Bosch, Neff and Miele alongside mainstream names like Candy and Hisense. What sets Hughes apart from larger national chains is its breadth of specialist knowledge and the depth of service surrounding its products — including a rental offering and multiple dedicated service centres in East Anglia. Voted second best electrical site by Which? Magazine, the product selection is curated and well-supported.

Delivery

Hughes delivers across the UK with standard and express options. Large appliances are delivered by a specialist team with booked slots, and installation services are available on selected products. The 19-store and 3-service-centre network across East Anglia means local customers can also collect or have appliances serviced close to home. Delivery performance is generally strong, with tracked shipping provided as standard and courier partners used for smaller items.

Returns and refunds

Hughes offers a 30-day returns policy on most products. The service centre network is a genuine differentiator — rather than simply replacing a faulty appliance, Hughes can often arrange a repair, extending the product lifespan and reducing waste. Price matching is available, and any pricing discrepancy found after purchase can also be raised with the team. Faulty goods are handled with manufacturer support, and the long-standing brand relationships Hughes holds means warranty resolution is well-managed.

Customer Services

Hughes offers a range of loyalty discounts that are genuinely broad: 5% for NHS and key workers, students and graduates via Student Beans, over-55s, expectant mothers and those on maternity leave. Phone, email and live chat support are all available. The combination of over a century of trading history, a strong Which? endorsement, and a loyal East Anglian customer base reflects a business built on reputation rather than volume discounting alone.

Carbon Footprint

Hughes operates 19 stores and 3 service centres in East Anglia, keeping its physical footprint relatively regional. The rental and repair services are a positive environmental differentiator, keeping appliances in use rather than contributing to the growing problem of WEEE waste. No standalone published sustainability strategy is available, but the emphasis on repair and longevity rather than replacement is inherently aligned with more sustainable consumption.
